"Het Eerbetoon aan het Licht," kortweg 'Lumos' (*), is een moderne interpretatie van "De Aanbidding der Wijzen" (KMSKA, Antwerpen), geschilderd door de Grote Peter Paul Rubens.

In deze scène viert de wereld. Verre vuurwerk gaat af in de vroege ochtendlucht. Het begin van een nieuw tijdperk. Omdat het Licht is geboren. Hoop is geboren.

In het heldere morgenlicht zijn drie silhouetten verzameld rond een centraal, vormeloos, stralend Licht. Elk van de Drie Wijzen draagt hun eigen symbolische gave bij aan de viering van het Licht. Hun stralende gouden silhouetten zijn, net als het Heilige Licht, een verwijzing naar het eerste geschenk; het 'Goud' - symbool van rijkdom en koningschap. De vaagheid van de figuren, ogenschijnlijk oprijzend uit het stof, is een verwijzing naar de rook van 'Wierook' - symbool van priesters en gebeden, geschonken door de Tweede Wijze. Warme bruine en gele okertinten in de compositie verwijzen naar de kleur van 'Mirre' - symbool van sterfelijkheid, geschonken door de Derde Koning.

Dit werk beeldt de oorsprong van Licht en Hoop af, volledig uitgepuurd. Een individuele boodschap van Geloof in moderne tijden, die voor sommigen in de vorm van Christus kan voorkomen, voor anderen op een volledig andere manier. Daarom is het uiterlijk van het Heilige Licht opzettelijk vormloos gelaten. Op deze manier blijft het open voor interpretatie, in een wereld waar Koninginnen gelijk zijn aan Koningen en meningen vrij (zouden moeten) zijn.

(*) Lumos - een toverspreuk uit de Harry Potter-boeken, gebruikt om een flits van licht aan het uiteinde van de toverstaf te produceren.

"The Adoration of Light", also to be referred to as 'Lumos' (*), is a modern-day interpretation of "The Adoration of the Magi" (KMSKA, Antwerp), painted by the Great Peter Paul Rubens. 

In this scene, the world is celebrating. Distant fireworks are going off in an early morning sky. The beginning of a new era. Because Light is born. Hope is born. 

At the brightness of dawn, three silhouettes are gathered around a central, shapeless, shining Light. Each of the Three Wise Kings carrying their own symbolic gift to the celebration of Light. Their shining gold silhouettes are, just like the Holy Light,  a reference to the first gift; the 'Gold '-  symbol of wealth and royalty. The vagueness of the figures, seemingly rising from the dust, a reference to the smoke of 'Frankincense' - symbol of priests and prayers, gifted by the Second Wise. Warm brown and yellow ochre tints in the composition, are a reference to the color of 'Myrrh' -  symbol of mortality, gifted by the Third King.

This work depicts the origin of Light and Hope, completely pured out. An individual message of Faith in modern times, which for some, may occur in the form of Christ, for others, in a completely different way. Hence, the appearance of the Holy Light has deliberatly been left shapeless. This way keeping it open for interpretation, in a world where Queens are equal to Kings and beliefs should be free.
