This painting was inspired by the wonderful fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen. We used to listen to them all the time when we were kids... 

One story in particular is quite famous in Russia, namely: The Steadfast Tin Soldier.  And this is the tale this work was inspired on.

Soldier is part of the red-white-black series, just like Little Red Riding Hood. In this series, my dad and I recreate our favourite tales from our childhood in only three colors: white, black and red. The artworks are painted on wooden panels.
